2023 Construction Updates
2023 Construction Projects Weekly Update 7/21/2023
WIS 35 / Church Hill Road Utility and Street Reconstruction
Construction is underway along WIS 35 from County C to Laser Drive. There is no through traffic on this section of WIS 35 but, side streets will remain open, and a detour route is put in place to re-route traffic. Temporary pedestrian access will be provided during time of construction.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is overseeing the construction and improvements of the roadway and storm sewer. While the Village of Somerset oversaw the construction of the watermain and sanitary sewer along WIS 35, completed by A-1 Excavating. Water and sewer utility connections were completed at the end of June. There will be no additional water shutoffs scheduled. Concrete pavement will begin this week starting at the Main Street intersection and progressing east to County Road C. Street preparation will continue on the north-south leg of Church Hill/State HWY 35.
If you have any questions about this or the project in general, feel free to contact Andrew Huntley at (920) 359-0814 or ahuntley@correinc.com.

Main Street Bridge Rehabilitation
The Main Street Bridge project kicked off in June and is scheduled to be completed before August 31. The Main Street Bridge over the Apple River is located adjacent to the WIS 35 project, thus the same detour for the WIS 35 project is to be utilized. This project includes the reconstruct of the Bridge with the replacement of the watermain and sanitary sewer. Pedestrian walkways on the bridge will be restricted for much of the duration of the construction project due to safety concerns. The pedestrian bridge below the Main Street Bridge will be open at all times to allow pedestrian access across the river. Please see the Village of Somerset’s Public Work’s Facebook page for additional details and updates.
2023 Curb and Sidewalk Improvements
There are several curb and sidewalk segments along Main Street and Spring Street that need attention. This project will remove and replace the vast majority of the failed and cracked concrete along Main Street and Spring Street. A dedicated right turn lane will be added to Spring Street to accommodate vehicular traffic traveling north bound on Spring Street and turning right on to Main Street. The project will begin this Friday, July 21st. Construction crews will begin removing concrete on the north segment of Spring Street and work towards Main Street next week. Main Street intersection work is scheduled to begin the week of August 14th. This work will accommodate traffic with occasional lane restrictions. Main Street concrete removals are also scheduled the week of August 14th. Asphalt milling will be done from the bridge past the Main Street intersection as well as a segment of Spring Street. This work is scheduled to occur on August 28th. Pavement replacement is scheduled to be done on August 29th. This project is scheduled to be completed on or before the reopening of the Apple River Bridge. Finalcompletion is scheduled for September 15th, 2023.
